How to Reorder Pages in a PDF

Page order goes wrong in predictable ways. Someone scans the fronts of a stack, then the backs, and ends up with all the odd pages followed by all the even ones. A merge is done in the wrong sequence. An appendix ends up ahead of the section it belongs to.
Reordering is a purely structural change: the pages themselves are untouched, only their sequence in the file changes.

Useful tips
- For an interleaved double-sided scan, it is often faster to split the file into two halves, then merge them alternately, than to drag dozens of pages.
- If a document also has sideways pages, rotate first: it is much easier to judge order when everything is upright.
- Very long documents are easier to handle in sections — split, arrange each part, then merge.
Common problems
- Dragging is awkward on a phone
- Touch dragging over a long list is genuinely fiddly. Splitting the document into smaller chunks first makes it manageable.
- Thumbnails are slow to appear
- Each page has to be rendered. On a large scanned document this takes a moment; the order is not affected by waiting.
- The order reverted
- The arrangement only exists in the page until you save. Download the result before closing the tab.

- Internal navigation created for the old order may no longer make sense. Check the bookmark pane if the document used one heavily.
